I’m organizing a briefing on Capitol Hill next Tuesday focused on the issue of ’school connectedness.’ If you live within 400 miles of Washington, DC, I expect you to attend. The event will focus on the new CDC report, School Connectedness: Strategies for Increasing Protective Factors Among Youth. This publication identifies six strategies that teachers, administrators, other school staff, and parents can implement to increase the extent to which students feel connected to school. Speakers at the briefing will include Dr. Peter Benson of the Search Institute, Kari Gloppen of the CDC and Dr. Stephen Walts, the Superintendent of the Prince William County Public Schools.
